I went to the 4-H banquet yesterday, I received two plaques, one for Horticulture, for my market basket and vegetable plate, and I grew all the vegetables in SFGs. A plaque for Floriculture, and that was my SFG herb garden.

I also got a trophy for showmanship[ of my rabbit, and I was proud of that because it was about me handling my rabbit and what I knew about rabbits that won that.

I also received two duffel bags, one for Grand Champion rabbit and one for Showmanship rabbit.

And that ain't all....I got $11.00 dollars minus 4.00 entry fee..(a total of 28.00) for all my County 4-H projects, and I had 4 of them that won first place, grand champion, and best of show, the vegetable basket, vegetable plate, herb garden, and rabbit.
I also got $20.00 from the Illinois State Fair for Superior SFG herb garden!

I LOVE SFGing! Also the rabbits contribute to the manure for the SFGs!

Oooh, he's a beauty. I love how you placed him in front of flowers for his picture. Really professional. Thanks for the pic Josh.
Do you pull or cut his excess fur so the angora can be used in knitting?

Thanks camprn and quiltbea!

I had to use a small shop vac and blow his fur everyday to keep it from tangling and matting up, his fur was longer and thicker than in that picture by show time, you could barely see his eyes for all the fur fluffed up, some people didn't even know he was a rabbit and asked me what kind of animal he was. It was hot when we had the fair, I had to keep a fan on him and a bottle of ice in his cage all the time to keep him from getting over heated. As soon as the fair was over I took a metal dog comb and combed the wool out, sometimes I pull it, but mostly comb it out, he looked like a different rabbit with all the wool gone, he is getting it all back now.

He's absolutely stunning, Josh! Way back when my son was young, we had a grey one named Spaz. We didn't show him or anything but he was allowed in the house and was very well mannered, if you know what I mean.

Congrats on all you winnings! You deserve everyone! I'll be you had a lot of fun getting ready for it, too.

Well done Josh . It's amazing how people like you always win the prizes in place of those who never follow things through or put in the hours of reading and working. Congratulations .

There is a new sort of young long haired girls hair brush available over here called a " Tangle teaser " it has two heights of feather shaped tiny bristles of soft shiny plastic .. they rarely snag in a hair cott.

If the results our Munchkin gets from putting it through her 24 inches of tangled hair are anything to go by I reckon you might find them very useful for sorting out the rabbits without making them go bald every time you comb them out .

plantoid,
I'll look for one of those brushes, it just might work for the rabbits too! Worth a try anyway, if it doesn't work for the rabbits I can always use it on my hair in between hair cuts Razz

They are very common , UK price is £ 8.10 on Amazon UK search for tangle teaser hair brush ..it fits nicely in the palm of your hand and is not a regular handled hair brush
