So the only tomato plant in my garden I didn't raise from seed was from my local greenhouse (which is a good greenhouse), a black krim. I didn't find the seeds online until late and didn't want to pay shipping on one pack of seeds. But now that the fruit is ripening, I've realized I definitely don't have a black krim. I think I've got a brandywine my tomato looks a lot like this (rather ugly actually):

My Black Krims are Brandywines?!? Brandywine

I've never grown brandywine. I love black krim so I'm a bit disappointed, but always wanted to try brandywine, so trial by force I suppose. Anyone that grows both, which do you prefer?

I've grown both, but not in the same year in order to do a side-by-side comparison. They're both great.

Ugly? They're so good that I close my eyes to savor the goodness!

I read on line that Brandywines are suppose to be so intensely flavorful that there is a cult-like following of folks who love it. In the past I've tasted cruddy supermarket or home grown burpee hybrids. This year one brandyw. and one mortgage lifter plus two hybrids - supersweet100's and a couple roma II. Should be some interesting comparisons.

Well I don't know if they are brandywines or not (the leaves have me thinking not, but the fruit looks the part). Anyway, I tried the first ripe one today and it was delicious, still missing my black krim, but this tomato has very good flavor. Fairly strong tomato flavor, a meaty texture, a bit sweet, with some acid tartness.
