Man do they look crowded.
I've finally got everything in the box for my first square foot garden, and I am a bit concerned about the lima beans.
I'm growing Fordhook limas, and have put them in at 9 per square. The seedlings look good, but they look VERY crowded. Is this just me feeling the nerves of doing this SFG thing for the first time?
Thanks,
G.

I have limas planted, and yes they looked crowded, but, all plants are loaded, and are doing fine. Pods are on and just waiting for them to fill out some.

Could be nerves. When I did my first couple of boxes I spaced further apart than recommended but later realized it would have been fine, perfect in fact, if I'd followed the recommendation. With my way, there were weeds due to space, breeze and sun coming between the plants. Now my veggies touch each other and shade the ground underneath. All is well.
For me it's all one big experiment. If it works, fine, if not, I learn something. Also, I didn't come into this with any expectations when I started SFG this year. Once it was put together, it was supposed to be run by my mother. But she's been delayed due to health issues so I just keep plugging along in my 'science lab', aka SFG... .. and reaping the rewards in the form of lots of good healthy food!
