Heat tolerant lettuce.
I tried a summer growing heirloom variety of lettuce called 'Slobolt'. It's good and sweet compared to my awful spring lettuce 'black simpson' that was bitter. 'Slobolt' is also growing really fast with temps in the 80's and 90's. Are there other varieties that work for you?

We have Simpson andGreen Mignonette lettuce. The Green Mignonette is a popular variety grown in Hawaii.
Both are still small - more like mesclun greens that are for sale in a bagged mix. Our weather has been hot here lately, but so far, so good. No bolting and no bitterness.

I have buttercrunch, it's not slow bolting that I know of but me being a dingbat planted it in a greenhouse and it's still going strong as well as what I haave outside. I have heard that jericho lettuce is good and slow bolting though!

I am still picking baby romaine here in Kansas City...no bolting yet and the temps have been in the high 90's lately...not sure how much longer it will hang on...it still tastes great on burgers and in wraps.

I didn't find anything that didn't bolt weeks ago, here in TN.

I've had great luck with my black seeded simpson, red sails, salad bowl and buttercrunch lettuces. We've had incredibly hot temps here in CO and my lettuces have still done remarkably well. I like to trim on my lettuce when it's still fairly small, and very early in the morning. So far this season, I've had no problems with bitterness.
I am my gardens worst enemy.

My 'Lolla Rossa' lettuce is still doing really well,I need to pull up my mesclum mixes which are done. I will replace the squares with a planting of beans.

Re: Heat tolerant lettuce.
most of my lettuces do well in the heat by growing them in the shade and giving them plenty of water.
however, i try to grow with the seasons, so i don't push the cold weather stuff too hard. fall and winter will be here soon enough and then i'll have all the garden greens i can stomach. that's when i'll be sorry if i gave too much attention to greens when i could have been giving that space, time, and energy to fruits.

Re: Heat tolerant lettuce.
The last of my baby romaine is holding on in the shade of tomatoes...beets are there as well...these get harvested right when the tomatoes take-off and need the air circulation.
