Howdy, y'all!

SAHM to 2 girls ages 4 and 2 and one boy age 6 months. Yes, I "have my hands full" as I hear every single time we venture out, lol. Got the All New Square Foot Garden book for Christmas and spent the next several weeks reading, planning, and gathering supplies bit by bit.

Put in the first plants the first weekend of Feb...Oh, forgot to mention that I'm in south Texas, down in the Rio Grande Valley, almost at the tip of Texas, so not much winter here. We had a couple of "cold" weeks in January and even got down to 28 degrees one night and that was all over the news.

Loving my SFG. The only way I would be able to garden with my little ones. DH is in his first year of teaching college and doesn't have much time to help (and no gardening experience, anyway).

Here's a post I did about my garden (and kiddos) this week.

I checked out the forums back in Jan when I was planning and am happy to see they are much more active now! This is our first year in south Texas and it is interesting to be on a different gardening schedule than the rest of the U.S. Still figuring it out! Already harvested my one trial cauliflower and broccoli and hope to grow a lot more next winter, as it was already getting too hot for them.

Anyone else in south Texas?

Welcome. I used to live at Hebbronville and loved the freeze free winters (and picking my morning grapefruit right off the tree). Now am in NW Central Texas, so a completely different climate.

Not sure of any South Texans on here, but there are several Floridians, so you should find some SFG soulmates in them.

Hi elliephant,
Just saw your post. The weather's been GREAT so I've been playing in the garden the last few days. Welcome to SFG and Forum. I'm up in the Dallas area and don't recall meeting anyone from the Valley as yet, but the forum is growing by leaps and bounds so you're sure to have some company soon. Best of luck with your SFG and please keep us posted.

hi, elliphant!

your kids and mine are similar in age. 6,4,soon to be 2 next month. (two boys, then a bonus girl  )

i am blessed.

we love our sfg! we used it last year as homeschool project, then turned out, we LOVE gardening! so we're hooked. my oldest kid and i have a lot of fun dreaming about what to plant and where to expand. *grin*

we're even in process of building a greenhouse! have no idea what we'll put in it, just seemed like a fun idea at the time, lol. (we're using recycled 2 liter soda bottles, so not costing us much cash for materials.) just a bit of lumber and 3 bags of concrete thus far.
