optimum spacing for purple top turnips

Anyone out there tell me what your optimum spacing is for purple top turnips? I would like to consistently grow 1.5 to 2 inch turnips.

I don't have a seed package of turnips, but to allow for 2" roots, I would plant 9 to the square. I am growing seven top turnips for the greens and planted them 12 to the square.
