Hot compost and 2k wormies!
Finally got a pitchfork today and turned my piles of compost.
I was tickled pink when I saw the steam rising from the manure pile!!!!
The other pile, while it had the ashy look and I know it got "warm" wasn't steaming, but I went ahead and combined the two. Now I have one huge honkin pile of compost going!
Will be starting another pile, behind the chicken coop, tomorrow. Have the leaves they scratched up into shreds from their run, along with the bedding (shavings) from the coop and the brooder to get it started. Will add all my kitchen/garden waste to that pile and work on getting it built up.
Also got a delivery from the post office from Uncle Jims of 2k red wigglers. Split them up into two 10 gallon totes with just a wee bit of the manure, their peat bedding and some damp newspaper, shredded & one partial sheet over the top.
You guys have no idea how excited I am to finally be getting started on this journey. I've been wanting to do the whole "Homesteading" thing for years and my dreams are finally starting to come true!

Yus! Very Very Exciting!
I'm so lucky to have a DH that loves me as much as mine does. He's so accomodating to what I want to do, regardless of what it is .. well .. within reason of course
When we talked about a week ago (we talk multiple times a day) we discussed when I'd be "ready" to come back out on the road with him. I didn't really know what to say, since staying home came as such a suprise to me to begin with. I said I really didn't know. When did he want me to come back out?
We miss each other alot ... and although I've been keeping busy doing all these things I've dreamed of for years, being apart after 4 years of being together 24/7/365 is a little ... stressful.
Anyway, his response was .. "Come back out when you're ready. You've put your dreams off for so long so we could get things paid for. Now that they are you deserve to do what you've dreamed of for so long." *tear* Gosh I Love my DH.

Ava - We both are. Usually we drive team, hence the together 24/7/365 for the past 4 years. This is the first time we've been apart (other than an hour here or there) in those 4 years.
And yus, super sweet ... is it any wonder I luv my DH?

Re: Hot compost and 2k wormies!
That is very very sweet.
I hope you can make it so you can be together again all the time.
The white ash you were talking about is apparently a sign of a certain type of bacteria that you want in your compost for fast producing compost,
It gives off a white ash appearance and so mixing any of that in with the rest is likely to get the whole thing going hotter than ever. :fall:
