floyd.....Transplant:

Broccoli 5 wks before last frost date when 4-6" tall with 4-6 true leaves. Plant an inch deeper than from their pots.

Cabbage 5 weeks before last frost date when 3-5 true leaves but less than 7 and buried slightly deeper than from their pots.

Cauliflower 4 wks before last frost date buried deeper than their pots. I'm sure they'll have some true leaves by then. Shallow-rooted so weed shallowly.

Don't forget that all have to be hardened off for a week before putting out in the garden.

Good luck, Sandra

Sandra

Thanks for the info but another dumb question. What are 2-4 sets of leaves? You mean 2 sets or 4 sets of leaves? I think I read these are sets of different sets of leaves.

Still learning as this is the first time starting plants from seedsTomato seedling issue - Page 2 3170584802

I am grateful for you help and patience

floyd....I didn't say sets of leaves. I just said the number of leaves. As in 4 to 6 true (True leaves are the ones that grow AFTER the tiny starting leaves that are all oval). Broccoli anywhere from 4 to 6 true leaves and cabbage anywhere from 3 to 5 true leaves AFTER the ones they germinated with. I hope this is clearer.

Happy gardening. Sandra

I have adjusted mine and the original plants are doing much better; thanks. It is a shame this info is not in Mel's book and am glad you and other have this problems as most average gardener, who but transplants from stores, never have this issue.

Starting from seed not only saves a TON of money but keeps me busy growing thinks for most of the year.
