hedgehog bedding

so this might seem kind of an odd question but here goes. we own two hedgehogs, their bedding is ground cardboard, really fluffly stuff. would it be ok to add the used stuff to my nightcrawler bin?

I think it will be fine. I know you can definitely compost it if nothing else. I know putting cardboard down in the garden attracts earthworms. I just don't know what effects of the hedgehog droppings will have on the worms.

Judy, did you know you can freeze green tomatoes for frying? slice and dredge in the cornmeal like usual, put in a single layer on a cookie sheet, freeze solid, then put in baggie. drop straight into hot oil, don't defrost. we ate our last ones just before christmas. not quite as good as fresh of course, but will scratch the itch. you can also sometimes find them at the supermarket if you ask the produce manager to look through his stock of imports, they won't put out mater til they are red, so he might have some in the back just waiting.

I can usually find them at Ft. Lee commissary--your pic just brings on the itch, as you say!!

When you get them ready to freeze, do you do the egg/milk mixture before the cornmeal???

Hedgehogs are omnivores? We don't usually put meat eating animal manures in the compost. Though it is not unheard of, the stink factor of meat eaters could bring on other pests, and I can't comment at all about any harmful bacteria, etc. they may shed in their poo and transmit to humans.... Maybe check with a zoo or animal science dept. at your nearest agriculture college?

I thought about that too llama momma, they eat catfood and occasionally a mealworm or two. they mostly poo on their wheel, need to be moving as they go. lol no wonder you would never get one toilet trained. there is very little solid waste, only smell you get out of the bedding is ammonia from urine if you leave the bag of used bedding sitting on the backporch (as the daughter did one time). i've got a bin of nightcrawlers (leftover fishing worms) i might try it on for a while, see what happens.
