New to the SFG Forum and have enjoyed reading many of the posts and all seem to be refreshing in their own regard. While we are planning to landscape our yard we decided to include evergreen blueberries in the landscape. We were able to find 3 gallon plants for $5 each and can't wait to get them in the ground. What are the soil requirements and best place to plants these beauties? Is this a good time to start planting seeds for transplanting?

Appreciate your thoughts and experience!

Blueberries as a lanscape accent 654548 Psaltee, and glad to have you join us.

Wish I knew a bit about blueberries, more than that they like acidic soil. You may find information on blueberries using our search feature in the upper left column.

As far as seed starting dates, you will first need to determine your average last frost date, then you can use the chart in Mel's book, ALL NEW SQUARE FOOT GARDENING. I hope you have had a chance to read it as it is full of great, easy to understand information.

The following post SEED STARTING DATES ,<<< CLICK has information on determining your average last frost date and calculating your indoor seed starting dates.

In what part of the PNW are you located? Each part of the region has a different climate. Coastal Blueberries as a lanscape accent 3868 , Valleys Blueberries as a lanscape accent 3040868389 , Desert Blueberries as a lanscape accent 385266 and Mountains Blueberries as a lanscape accent 695909 , each has it's own challenges.

Please keep us posted on your progress and ask questions. We try to assist when we can.

Hi psaltee! Welcome to the forum!

I was so excited to see your thread title because I am planning on incorporating blueberries into my landscape as I finish up the backyard this year. I understand that many of the varieties have beautiful fall foliage, although I suppose an evergreen type wouldn't change colors? 3 gallon plants for $5? What type and where from???

Definitely use the search feature - I see blueberries get talked about on here often. There was a thread quite recently in fact.

Post pics when you can!

It is a great time of year to plant berries in the PNW. Blueberries like acidic soil and since I have 26 Douglas Firs in my yard, I use those.
Here is a link for Blueberries from OSU that may help. I should be receiving 3 Red Huckleberry, 3 Evergreen Huckleberry and one Red Current by next week that I will be incorporating into my ever evolving landscape. Good luck to you and your berries!
