Hi all,

I want to sow Saltwort (a crunchy leafy thing to stirfry, hadn't heard of it before thinning - plantspacing when "no thinning is necessary" Icon_smile ), and the package says to "sow in rows 9" apart, no further thinning necessary." So, how does that translate to SFG-measurements? Do you sow two little rows in a square? Or just sprinkle a handfull of seeds around the whole square? What would you do, or does anyone have experience with this crop?
Please advice! thinning - plantspacing when "no thinning is necessary" Icon_question

Having never heard of it, I went googling...interesting plant!

You might find growing tips here, although it doesn't answer your question

http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/cornucop/msg102021527556.html

from johnnysseeds.com

Growing Information:
Saltwort
Days to Germination: 7-14 days.

Sowing Time: Spring, Summer, Fall

Seeding Method: Direct seed or transplant

Light Preference: Sun/Part Shade

Plant Height: 8-18"

Plant Spacing: 2-6"

Hardiness Zones: Annual
Looking at the spacing, I'd try 9-16 per square. It looks like it's easiest to cook with when it's young, so they wouldn't get too big.

Thanks Boffer! I guess I could have googled it myself Smile Strange they give different planting directions on different locations though. I'll try 16, and if it gets too crowded, I can harvest half of them as "babyleafs". I'll keep you posted of the results (and the taste Smile)!
