I started up my Aerogarden Ultra this evening for winter indoor gardening. I'll post progress on the following thread.

I discovered a disaster today. I usually keep the pump running on our small goldfish pond into the cold weather and turn it off in December.  The pond surface freezes over except where the waterfall keeps a small area open. Today I noticed the waterfall was not running.  When I checked I could see way down into the pond. My guess is that the plastic pipe from the pond to the waterfall froze and then leaked. As a result the pump emptied the pond. I expect I have lost the goldfish, could lose the waterlilies and may have fried the pump.  Will have to wait until next Spring to find out for certain but it does not look good. We have had this pond for at least 20 years and have never experienced anything  this before.

That's awful, TD. Sad I wish there was something you could do now, but I can't imagine what that could be. Sad

Sorry about your little pond, TD and it's flora and fauna.

I used to have a little pond and in it I kept the two goldfish I had indoors that outgrew their little aquarium and they survived during the winter very well.  My pond did not have a pump except for the summer when the pond had a little fountain.

It's getting time for me to go back through this thread, as well as my handwritten notes, and make a summary of SFG 2017 to help with planning for SFG 2018. Now I just need to get the time and energy to do it.  Very Happy

We had a goldfish pond in Vegas. Left the hose on one day and the pond overflowed. Wouldn't have been so bad, but over a dozen babies had just hatched. We spent an hour chasing tiny goldfish through the grass. All lived happily ever after. 2 - Third Year SFG in Canada - Page 24 43549

You're far from the only one who needs to do this.  I need to plan better for my garden as well.   Considering all the space I had dedicated to corn, I didn't even get the kernels back that I had planted!

Most of my potatoes were smaller than a quarter, despite the massive and lush tops they had.

Got nothing from my squash and my  three sisters attempt failed miserably.  My  beans failed to produce much of anything.

Got quite a few jalapenos, but no poblanos or bell peppers.

My cherry tomatoes EXPLODED, though my Indian Kumquat tomatoes came out hard and not very flavorful.

My carrots also took forever...

C'est la vie.

Not sure what I'll be planting this year, but I've got close to 4 or 5 months to plan and order. 6 before I can plant.
