Thinning Carrots?

Thinning Carrots?
Is it necessary to thin carrots? I have about 7-8 inches of green tops with no obvious root development. I planted a pinch of seed in 9 holes - do I need to thin in order to get carrots??

Yes you do, or you'll end up with a gnarly, tangled mess. I usually wait till they're 2 inches tall, so each plant is easier to distinguish, then thin with scissors.
Re: Thinning Carrots?
Thanks do I just cut them at stem? Is pulling them out not a good idea?

Bump! I've never done this. I guess I'd better get with the program. (My carrots are almost 2" tall.)
Re: Thinning Carrots?
Yeah. You gotta thin ‘em. It’s not fun, because they are so slim and hard to tell where they are! But be vigilant! You will be rewarded with the best carrots ever!
Plant scarcely. 2-3 seed/hole. Then be a warrior about the seedlings! And watch for those close neighbors...pluck em!

Re: Thinning Carrots?
I use pointy scissors and carefully snip the extras as close to the Mix as possible. The singles left will really start to grow.
