I should keep an eye on my flower bed. It's on the South side of the house right along the house and I've had the tulips growing by the end of February before and blooming by mid-march...

It is nice to know that spring is right around the corner, but it is too early. I have seen 3 daffodils, lots of robins and the neighbor has a blooming forsythia. Those are the local signs that spring is coming, however it is a month and a half too early. I keep waiting for the other shoe to drop a foot of snow.

Last week I had a dandelion blooming in my yard. Then it got cold (really cold), so perhaps everything is slowing down and finally going dormant. I've never been so happy for winter before. What a weird month it has been.

As much as I hate cold weather, I am glad we are getting some below freezing weather finally. It cuts down of some of the summer bugs. But this year I expect I'll have a bumper crop of Japanese Beetles. My "lawn" must be full of grub because for the first time ever I am overrun with moles. They moved in last Sep or Oct. Or at least the first time I noticed them was in Nov when I finally got back home for more than a day.
My Japanese Quince bush is blooming but not my camellia (which is SUPPOSED to bloom in Jan)

The daffodils in our yard have poked their heads a few inches above the ground but are nowhere near blooming.

The last few years we have had winter robins here in Cincinnati, so I can't use that as a gauge of spring's arrival any longer. Anymore, I just look for the first crocus bloom in the garden. They seem to be smarter than daffodils. Wink

I don't even see mine "tipping" yet. They have poked their heads up in Jan/Feb before, but rarely do they bloom. My God that's early for them!
