New Theme: Garden Quotes
I thought it might be fun to start a thread on garden quotes. These can be thought-provoking, or just plain fun. Please give credit (when known).
As others have done with the games, I will compile them when enough accumulate, or when interest slows.
I plan to enscribe a few of these in stepping stones I will create for my own garden for this season. A half-dozen, or so, of such stones welcome one through the garden gate. As much as visitors enjoy their welcoming, I have found additional functions for them. They help weigh down any covers over the beds, they suffocate patches of weeds, they keep shoes clean because they rise above puddles (and mud), etc. I create these stones with quick-setting concrete, bits of tiles, glass, and other decorative items. I have a couple with hand and paw prints.
Anyway, here is a first quote to get us started:

I have seen women looking at jewelry ads with a misty eye and one hand resting on the heart, and I only know what they're feeling because that's how I read the seed catalogs in January - Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle

Howdy Folks:
Our England is a garden, and such gardens are not made By singing: - 'Oh, how beautiful! 'and sitting in the shade, While better men than we go out and start their working lives AT grubbing weeds from gravel-paths with broken dinner knives.

God Bless, Ward and Mary.

I think it's one of the most important battles for consumers to fight: the right to know what's in their food, and how it was grown. --Joel Salatin (From Food, Inc.)
If you want government food, go to the supermarket and buy government food. But for those who want to have a relationship with their food, and the accountability that inherently comes with voluntarily and informatively opting out of the supermarket to go ask around, smell around, sniff around, look around and opt out of the government food system, they ought to have that right. --Joel Salatin
Everything that slows us down and forces patience, everything that sets us back into the slow circles of nature, is a help. Gardening is an instrument of grace. --May Sarton
Hold my calls, I'm going to the garden. --Mamachibi

Re: New Theme: Garden Quotes
I grow plants for many reasons: to please my eye or to please my soul, to challenge the elements or to challenge my patience, for novelty or for nostalgia, but mostly for the joy in seeing them grow.

I hope no one's posted that one. There are so many now, it's hard to check to see.

sheryeo, I think you are the first. However, it is okay if we get duplicates.
Just keep posting. They have all been great! Thanks to every one who has contributed.
I know there is one out there about how a garden teaches one patience. I do not remember the exact words. Let's hope someone knows it!
