Peeling Hard Boiled Eggs
Has anyone tried this way?

The baking soda is optional, but if you choose not to use it, be sure to move the eggs to cold water (use ice) immediately after boiling. Blow from the tip to the broader base for faster de-shelling.

It can't be that easy! I just put a pot of water on to boil. My eggs are two days old; that should be a good test. Back in a few...

Re: Peeling Hard Boiled Eggs
Yeah...well...I had to do something with the hardboiled eggs I didn't plan on having!
It worked like a charm. Even the eggs that cracked in the boiling water were easy to peel the same way. I did use the baking soda and iced water bath for 2 minutes.

Wow. I must admit I have questions about sanitation using this method, but I guess it's really no worse than having someone blow out the candles and then everyone else eating the cake, hmm? Just hope the person doesn't have a communicable disease.

You have got to be kidding me!? Unbelievable. I am so going to try this too. Boffer, this seriously worked for you eh?

Lol, sherryeo I showed the vid to my wife and the first words out of her mouth where "You would seriously be ok with someone blowing all over the eggs?"
I am somewhat of a germaphobe actually. I know hard to believe being a plumber, but I absolutely cringe everytime someone blows on a birthday cake. If someone touches the rim of my drinking glass its finished. I will end there lol...
I am still gonna try it tho for my own satisfaction.

So why don't one of you guys figure out how to blow the egg out using something like a compressor? Then no spit would be involved. Sounds like a good idea to me.

Germaphobe plumber? That's an oxymoron and does not compute! Have you got a picture of you in your moon suit?!
Re: Peeling Hard Boiled Eggs
I know. It's strange...I could deal with pooh and pee more than someone drinking out of my glass or touching the rim or handling my silverware.boffer wrote:Germaphobe plumber? That's an oxymoron and does not compute! Have you got a picture of you in your moon suit?!
But in all reality I don't have to deal much with service type plumbing. I do it here and there, but I mostly take care of construction, boilers, pumps, controls stuff like that.
Here I am at (boffer you're gonna laugh) a waste water treatment plant we put in South part of Denver.
It was all new construction. I ran that job for 3 years and didn't see a single piece of pooh
That makes plumba haaapy
...and tomorrow I cant wait to blow an egg out of a shell

If you have a pan of boiled cool water standing by and wash the eggs immediately after blowing out of the shell, you should eliminate the germs or at least relieve your phobia somewhat. If you are really phobic, dip them in vodka.

Re: Peeling Hard Boiled Eggs
My two boys would SO love to try this! However, although I'm not a germophobe, that does gross me out. We raise chickens to get eggs (haven't butchered one yet just because we haven't taken the time to figure out how to do that whole process) and fresh eggs are notoriously hard to peel without totally destroying the white and ending up with a bunch of yolks. The best way I've found is to add salt to the water - you have to use a good amount, say 2 tablespoons to a quarter cup depending on how many eggs you are doing. They peel with no problem. I put the eggs in the pan, cover with cold water, add the salt and bring to a boil, then take them off the heat, cover and let sit for 15 minutes, then rinse in cold water. Works every time!

Re: Peeling Hard Boiled Eggs
Using a spoon, I usually tap the tops of the eggs, just a wee bit, as they sit in the tray. If you tap it just right you will hear a snap, as a small crack develops in the shell. Then I put them in a pot, just cover them with cold water and slowly bring to a boil. I then shut off the gas and let them sit for about 20 minutes. Usually there is no green yolks or problems peeling.

Re: Peeling Hard Boiled Eggs
Alright my experiment is complete. I feel better knowing that popping out your eardrums and blowing H1N1 or Hoof and Mouth disease all over your eggs, is just another attempt to the perfect egg peeling hoopla.
I purposely saved 6 fresh eggs that I collected just tonight. Cause in my opinion, if it don't work with fresh, its not a true perfect way to peel eggs.
I got one egg that worked. Only one. None of the others would blow out of the shell. And the one that did, would be turned away by momma for deviled eggs.
I have no problems cooking eggs to perfection. That's easy.
It's the perfect peeled eggs voodoo that continues to haunt
Who else is gonna try this?

Re: Peeling Hard Boiled Eggs
I've not laughed so much & for so long about eggs .
As a boy soldier ( 1200 or so in camp ) back in the mid 1960's when on cook house fatigues we used to have competitions to see who could shell their share of the couple of hundred of hard boiled eggs the were going to be used that day .
We found best idea was to roll the eggs that had stood in cold water for 1/2 hr or more several times quicky but gently under the palm of your hand & evenly across the ribs of a kitchen sink drainer till the egg shell was in bits but still held intact by the inner membrance , then gently squeeze and roll the egg a bit in your palm to send the expelled egg out into a sink full of cold water , which took off any bits of remaining shell .
Some of the guys got so good they could do an egg in each hand at the same time , the champ however was able to do four eggs at time .
He was our teams hockey goalie & had hands & fingers like a grain shovel

I think they need to create a hybrid chicken chok full of some really ingenious hormones, to lay a shelless egg!

Have one chicken to produce a shellless egg that's already scrambled, one chicken to produce an egg that's already hard-boiled, and one chicken to produce an egg that's sunny side up.
Think of the possibilities!

Ok, yea, uhm, I'm thinking of the possilities here. Again, I'm not sure I like the sanitation issues that might arise from shell-less (and already scrambed, boiled, sunny side up, etc) eggs. I mean, let's remember where the eggs come from. I think I rather like the idea of there being a protective covering over them!

Worked for me for a dozen on Thanksgiving a.m. (also grocery store eggs). No one blinked an eye when I showed them how I did it and scarfed up ALL of the deviled eggs in record time!!!kelly wrote:It worked for me. 4 for 4. They were grocery story eggs.
