serendipitous brussels sprout discovery
and this may already be known to others, just new to me
This week, after harvesting one of my brussels sprouts plants, after picking the sprouts, I wondered if I could also make good use of the leaves. So, I cut them from the stalk, trimmed them (removing the brown bits, cutting off large stems, washing, slicing into about 1-1/2 inch strips), I cut up a really large onion, sweated the onion and a lot of garlic, with a toss of szechuan dried pepper flakes, in olive oil til nice and soft and aromatic, then added the leaves, a bit of water for steam, and steamed til they were soft. Maybe 20/25 minutes? My doubting husband loved them. So this weekend, the other stalks of brussels sprouts were harvested and we're doing the same thing for the freezer.

yum!! I tried one last year in a salad, it wasn't bad! I wonder why they aren't used? Tasted like cabbage to me!
