Peas are blooming!
Yeaa, my garden peas are blooming! I've never grown regular peas before, though I did grow Sugar Snap peas back when that variety first came out. I hope we get enough to harvest and actually eat some of them! I planted 4 squares of 8 plants per square. I hope that will be enough to provide a mess or two, do you think so?
I also have snow peas planted, but they're not blooming as yet.
I think I'll probably try planting them again in December, since I read that's a good time for my region to plant peas.
I fall gardening, so far!

although we haven't had any type of precipitation here...it's coming...you can feel the cold creeping in...sure wish we were looking at pea blossoms
Re: Peas are blooming!
I love Colorado and wouldn't live anyplace else again. I do however wish it wasn't such a dry, desserty like climate and that our growing season was a little longer. I still love going to the southern areas and seeing how green, plush and thick everything looks.
The only moisture we are getting now is snow!
Congrats on the bloomin peas!!

Re: Peas are blooming!
Yay for peas! I've been enjoying fall gardening too. My fall peas have just begun re-blooming. And here I thought they were all done and it was time to pull them...

Generally, they don't bloom until after the first snow, hence the name.
Re: Peas are blooming!
My snow peas are blooming too! but, this is the south. I'm not supposed to plant til January, but Oct. seemed good time. Will see if they put on pods before we get a hard freeze(Nov. or Dec.) Don't know how long it takes from blooming til pod formation. Peas put on a lot but don't know how many in cold weather.
good luck!
good luck!

i planted our peas in October too, but they're only about 4" tall. Nowhere near blooming. I'm hoping my bagged Mel's Mix isn't a flop??

Re: Peas are blooming!
Well, it's supposed to get down to 31 degrees here tonight. I've tried to cover everything with sheets, etc. I hope I don't lose everything. I have broccoli, cauliflower, beets, radishes, spinach, collards, turnips, carrots, kohlrabi, Swiss chard, green onions, and several kinds of lettuces planted. I've been enjoying lots of salads! First time every to try to grow all of that, except for green onions and one failed attempt at radishes earlier this year. I actually harvested my first actual radish a couple of days ago - it actually grew a radish this time, not just leaves!
Boffer, if the snow peas didn't bloom till it snowed here, chances are they'd never bloom at all. We very rarely get snow here. It can go for years without snow here. The seed packet said to plant them here Jan-March and in September. If this doesn't work out, I'll try again in January!

Well shucks, I was hoping for a more alarmed reaction than that!
