Re: How To Put a Weather Sticker in your Signature-a video
I just noticed that the weather I set up defaults to the main weather station in Nashville. Our city is very large in size, and I am about 35 miles from the "official" weather station, which is about 5-7 degrees off from our actual temperature. It is so off, that our growing season here in the Southwest part of the county is about 2 weeks longer than the official frost dates.
For instance, as I write this, the "official" temperature is 74.4, but the actual temperature in my neighborhood (according to a real weather station in the park) is 81.1.
Does anybody know how to switch your weather within a large city? I selected the Horseshoe Bend station within Nashville, but the temperature shown is still the station on the other side of the county.

Are any of these PWS (personal weather stations) located near you?
Horseshoe Bend isn't on the list, and it appears that you can't input a weather station that is not already listed.

Re: How To Put a Weather Sticker in your Signature-a video
Our city is about 33 miles long east to west and 38 miles long north to south, so there are multiple options available in Wunderground.
Horseshoe Bend and West Meade are the two closest Weather Underground stations to me, but for some reason, both tend to disappear from the Wunderground site for periods of time. The current real temperature for our suburb is 93.2 degrees, and it will be interesting to see what the signature shows.
Richland is the closest thing to us that is close to the same temperature.
Edit: it is showing 88, which is the default for the NWS 35 miles away.

Re: How To Put a Weather Sticker in your Signature-a video
It's going to depend on where the actual weather station is located. My station is about four miles away (as the crow flies) in the wide open spaces of the International Airport. The other thing is that we sometimes get micro-climates in our neighborhoods and yards. You also need to be careful where you measure the temperature. I have an outdoor temperature sensor located in a protected area but open to the air and hidden from the sun.brianj555 wrote:Wondered if the temperature changes automatically??

Yeah TD! I just noticed that mine changed. That’s pretty cool. It’s probably a half hour or so behind , but that’s no big deal. I’m just glad it auto updates.trolleydriver wrote:It's going to depend on where the actual weather station is located. Re: How To Put a Weather Sticker in your Signature-a video
Thanks, Sanderson! I figured there were directions somewhere, but hadn't gotten around to looking.
If I did this right, I've set up a signature with my personal weather station. I got it on discount this summer. For anyone thinking of getting one, take into account that the pole for getting it up in the air may cost nearly as much as the station. Even with the pole, mine isn't regulation height, and is closer to trees and the creek, and maybe even the house than it "should" be -- but observing my microclimate is the reason I got it. I attached the pole to an existing fence pole since I'm renting and didn't want to pour concrete, or face the possibility of needing to dig out said concrete when I move.
Not sure how much lag there is going to be, the preview looked pretty far off. My display at home reads 26*F right now. 57*F was today's high.

Re: How To Put a Weather Sticker in your Signature-a video
Remember that every back yard or front yard is a micro-climate. A 3 degree difference between your property and the airport is reasonable. My sticker indicates 45*F while the backyard thermometer indicates 47*F. The main things are: is it close to freezing? extreme heat in the summer requiring shade cloth? is the soil the right temperature for transplanting or seeding?
Re: How To Put a Weather Sticker in your Signature-a video
I see the sticker updates! I had somehow thought it was a static snapshot of the weather at the time of the posting (with some sort of delay factored in.)
By watching my station and comparing, I can see my temperatures are often about 6-7*F colder at night than the nearest 'real' station.
