Hi from Yuma AZ
Hello All
My name is Mike I am 44 and trying to get healthy. I have lived my life on pretty much processed and fast food. This is how I came across SFG. I am a total newbie. I have never even gardened before. So if I can do it anyone can. I have built 3 2x8x8 4x4 cedar boxes on 2 foot bases. I planted on 10/01/2011 and my radishes have sprouted already. I can't believe this. Looking forward to many years of good eats.

Hi Mike and welcome. Nice avatar . J/k
I'm in Chandler so we have pretty much the same climate. I have planted broc, spinach, bok choy and napa cabbage a couple of weeks ago and all sprouted within the first week. It's exciting to see the new sprouts come up. Looks like you have a lot more action than radishes going on there. What else did you plant?
I like the way you did your tabletop box. Did you use the premixed Mel Mix or did you make yours from scratch?

Great looking TT, Mike.
What did you make your grid out of? And what is you TT resting on to elevate it?

Re: Hi from Yuma AZ
That is my most AWESOME wife. I guess thanks J/k hahahaha j/k. Yeah I went to the nursery and bought Red cabbage, sweet bell pepper, celantro, parsely, brocoli, snow peas, tomatos. Plated seeds are spinach, carrots and radish. I have never done anything like this. So I am real excited to see what happens. I have 3 of these boxes and yeah I really like them. Ohhh and I bought Mel's mix from home depot. It is awesome stuff to work with. Looking forward to staying in touch. Would love to pick your brain about your expierence. Happy Gardening.
@ Lucy The grid is 1x1 pine I believe. You have to be real careful and pre drill everyone or you split it. And the base is 2 foot square 3/4 in plywood that has been primered and painted to seal it. This is the same plywood I used for the bottom of the box. By the way I did not use anything on the inside of box ie paint sealer etc. Gotta say I Love This Box.
