Cucumber beetles ruined my Cucs for this year...

Cucumber beetles ruined my Cucs for this year...
...can you give me any tips for next?
Would like to know if there are any varieties that are resistant to such things, or can I grow a small bush variety in a net and hand pollinate?
Any suggestions would be great. I am willing to try just about anything, since Cucumbers are my families favourite next to Tomatoes.

EDIT: I had an earlier post where someone said it was Powdery Mildew, but that was before I noticed the amount of Cucumber Beetles in there. I am now pretty sure that it is Bacterial Wilt caused by Beetles (took a sample to a garden centre and they told me that, and from what I have read online it makes sense)

You could have had both at the same time. I too had a terrible time with the stripped cucumber beetle this year, they did a lot of damage to my squashes, killed my water melons and have recently found the cukes. I do not currently have a remedy for them.
