Grrrrrrr....
Haven't noticed many bugs except for moths and caterpillars, for which I purchased Thuricide and have sprayed it... but something keeps eating the first true leaves of my bell pepper and eggplant transplants. They are also eating the first leaves coming up from my bean plants.
Does thuricide kill moths or just caterpillars?

do you have snails or slugs? do you see a "slime" trail around the stump that was left? I also had earwigs/pincher bugs eating mine like that. Go out at night and take a look, I was shocked at all the "action" that was going on at night!

Haven't seen slugs or slime... but I'll look tonight for any little guys eating.
I've been spraying also with the homemade hot pepper / garlic / soap mixture I saw in another thread. Doesn't seem to be stopping these critters

Do you have pictures of the damaged leaves?
That might help determine what type of pest is making a mess of your peppers and beans.

I don't think this little critter is responsible but he is cool lookin'!
Here's the garden. The damage is being done in the far right corner

Is that a slime trail I see? Or a trick of the light?
Re: Somethin's eating my lil' pepper transplants..
Sure looks like snails to me. Stick a pie pan of beer out there at soil level and what is there in the morning. Sure looks like snail/slug damage to me. I have tried everything and I have so many that once in awhile I use the snail pellets. I don't like to but if I didn't I would have no plants.

You mean there's a purpose for the skinny michelob ultras in the fridge?

What, you thought you were supposed to drink them or something? Nah! feed them to the slugs.

Re: Somethin's eating my lil' pepper transplants..
And the big boozers of the garden are:
Crickets. A ton of 'em in the tin. Didn't see any snails nor slugs though I did see a couple other cricket-like critters. Want me to post a picture?
Was doubting I'd see snails or slugs in the middle of summer. Any other AZ gardeners here know if they do happen?

I'm not from AZ or anywhere close, but I have a friend who lives in Albuquerque NM who harbors snails in her garden (for some reason she likes the slimy little things!). But if you didn't see any, then you probably don't have to worry about them so much.
Re: Somethin's eating my lil' pepper transplants..
Google "crickets in garden" and first link I clicked on mentioned crickets were going after young pepper plants.
Good think I stick have 6 sticks of ammo / cans of michelob ultra.

The only good snail is one dripping with garlic butter.littlesapphire wrote:I'm not from AZ or anywhere close, but I have a friend who lives in Albuquerque NM who harbors snails in her garden (for some reason she likes the slimy little things!). It looks like the grass hopper damage I had earlier this year.

Re: Somethin's eating my lil' pepper transplants..
I am just starting to get grasshopper damage on my beans. They got a good spraydown with my Tea Tree Oil/Pine Oil Soap bathroom disinfectant. TTO is usually a good bug repellent, but if that doesn't work I just got my bottle of NEEM delivered!
