Name the 5 states whose Capitols are NOT served by interstate highways. (No googling. )

I had to stop and think if there was 50 states when we had to memorize states and capitals! (There was, barely)
But I know a lot of states still didn't have interstate highways yet.

Hawaii, believe it or not, has THREE interstate highways surrounding Honolulu alone! H1, H2, and H3.

FYI, Pierre, South Dakota is also the ONLY state capitAl with no shared letters between the city name and the state name.

hmm...learn something new everyday...I always thought interdstate meant that it went across more than one state. LOL...figured Hawaii was a shoe in. ROFL.

Yup, me, too. That was a frequent comment while I was researching the question.
The Dwight Eisenhower Interstate System was intended to be used for wartime in case our country was attacked. That said, to be an "interstate highway," you need to hit a few requirements. One such requirement is that one mile out of every five must be straight. This is in case any part of interstate highways need to be used as emergency airstrips. It's a pretty ingenious concept.
Interstate may suggest connecting the states, but it isn't one of the federal requirements to be designated and Interstate Highway. Yes, I originally thought Hawaii was a lock as well.
Another major separater (sp?, Boffer) is how steep the hill grades are along interstates. I didn't look up the actual requirement, but they can't be too steep or they lose their designation and likely become US highways, or even State highways.
