Super pleased with the garden this year.

This is my first year for any extensive square foot gardening, and since I only had 3 4x4 boxes establish by early spring, and the other 3 4x8 boxes didn't come into being until close to May 15, some of plantings weren't as well placed as they could have been.

What I learned that was a surprise.... peas produce for a VERY long time. I planted them where I wanted to put my tomato plants... mistake. I have a garden layout worked out for next year based on what I am learning.

I have had a HUGE harvest of garlic (planted in my established beds last fall). Also a HUGE harvest of turnips, and turnip greens. I've had lettuce, rashishes, early onions, and string beans. Oh, and strawberries, and my first eggplant.. I have the most productive zucchini plant I've ever had. I need to pull carrots. The chard looks good, and I fell in love with red beets... and the greens are even better than the beets!

I am excited watching the pumpkins and squash one baby pumpkin has turned into a very nice sized one in the last few days. I have a large butternut, and several buttercups. The corn has silked, and shown good evidence of polination.. this all happened last year, but no reasonable corn harvest. Anxious to find out the outcome.

The tomatoes look good, I've got nice parsnip growing. Peppers are giving fruit.

The local baby bunny really enjoyed my cilantro.

I have brussels, cabbage, and broccoli in for the fall... this will be the first time for me growning brussels and broccoli.

I do want to get in a good sowing of beets and turnips for the fall yet as well. And plant more garlic. From the garlic I grew this year.

I'm so happy for you! My husband is so sick of hearing about my garden plus, every body else. I try so hard not to talk about it, but I can't help it. What a joy!

Thank you, it's kind of small, a 4x4 and two 2x8's. Next year, I plan on expanding in a very large way. Well, big for me, lol.

Isn't it a wonder how much food one can grow in such a small space?

+1!! We are all wierdos in one area or another, but the best thing about being a wierdo in ANY area is finding friends that are the same kind of wierdo with you. All of our quirks, idiosyncracies, and obsessions make us who we are.

When it comes to SFG, our families "accept" us, but the forum "gets" us. And, I love it!

I agree 100%. I'm glad this is what I'm a weirdo about (well, one of the things I'm a weirdo about!)! And I'm glad we all have this great forum!
