"Broccolini was developed by Sakata Seed Company, the seed is produced under contract by a Thailand Company and in the U.S. it can only be grown by a California Packing Company that has an exclusive contract. Broccolini is a hybrid between a cultivar of Gai Lon (or Kailan), a white flowered brassica sometimes known as Chinese Kale (Brassica oleracea var. alboglabra) and a selection of

We had some of this at a restaurant last week and we loved it, so when I saw your question, I thought maybe I should look into growing it, too. From what I've read, you can't get it under the "broccolini" name, but you can find it as "baby broccoli." It's a cross between Kale and Broccoli. I would love to grow it, but I think it will have to wait until next year because it needs to be started indoors and I'm not tackling that until next year. One thing at a time. I did find a mail order source for the seeds:

Reviving a post from 2010. Six years later...

While searching Pinterest for different Thanksgiving side dishes, I discovered something I'd never heard of: broccolini (not traditional broccoli, it may also be known as "baby broccoli" or "aspabroc").

Is anyone growing it, these days? If so, what's your experience, as compared to traditional broccoli? Where did you get your broccolini seeds or plants? What was the germination or successful transplant rate?

Although I recently gave up growing brassicas, I may make an exception and give this a try in the spring.

Links in the older posts appear to be outdated, so I did a fresh internet search and came across a handful of providers currently offering aspabroc/broccolini seeds:

I've bought some Broccoletto, which I think is the same thing, so I'm interested in this too.
Don't forget though, I'm in the UK, so things might be a bit different!

This article says:

about 5 to 6 inches apart, in rows 12 to 14 inches apart.

Using 6 inches apart that would mean 4 per square ?????

Well, maybe that is not correct. I saw one article that said 12 inches apart and another article said 24 inches apart.
