Any watering advice?

I have 2 options: Mel's way, which is keep a bucket and a cup out there and water one by one, or the hose. Our well water is super cold tho. But the bucket for 5 boxes sounds like it could take forever.

Also, is it best to water morning, noon, or evening, or does it matter?

I am currently using the hose and a wand. I hand water as I don't have the money to put in an auto system just now. I use the wand as I like to get the water to the soil and not all over the plants. Very Happy

NHGardener, I try to do all my watering in the mornings.

I prefer using soaker hoses like I did last year, but the new table tops are not set up for hoses yet. I will be using a watering wand so I can get the water on the MM and not the leaves.

I dislike taking a chance the water droplets will sit on the leaves too long and figure watering in the morning gives the leaves a better chance to dry out before the sun get too bright. I also do not want to have wet leaves overnight as that can promote fungus.

I am an evening hand waterer! Here in NM - at least at my place in the high desert - I sure don't have to worry about, what was it? fungus? mold? HUH? It's so dry here, the water about evaporates in the distance from my wand to the soil. And I'm exaggerating only a little. Nice thing is, my chips and cereal never get stale. Very Happy

The downside is, it takes a huge amount of water to satisfy my little newbie garden. I am so glad I'm on a well. That I pray does not run dry.

I use both the hand wand and bucket methods. With beans I do not want to risk even 1 drop of water on the leaves. I water in the morning and some plants get a little in the afternoon too these days, as it is so hot now in the 90's.

Lately, the sky has been doing all my watering. I don't know where my hose went, but I haven't used it in a week.

I wonder how it'd go over if I filled a bunch of rain barrels and sold the stuff as "purified" rainwater? I think I sold snake oil in a former life....

We got a simdge of rain today but it has been the driest spring in 81 years.
