You may wish to plant borage nearby; it repels hornworms and also attracts bees.
Beware, however. If allowed to go to seed, it will take over your garden!

Thanks for the advise. I'll look into it. I have tons of 1 gallon plastic pots I could see if it grows in those.

They can 'take out' a tomato plant in a few days so keep on the watch for them.

They make gorgeous moths, but they're definitely destructive! I got some free tomato plants from a friend and I'm going to sacrifice them by enclosing them with row cover and I'm going to put the hornworms I find in the "sanctuary" Knowing how beautiful they are as moths makes me cringe at the thought of killing them outright.
