Excited to give SFG a try!
Hello! I am very excited to be giving SFG a try! We have very little functional space for a garden in our backyard. Last fall we tore down and old garage and were left with a cinder block pad. A neighbour suggested adding a few SFG's, as this area receives the most sunlight in the yard. I spent the winter doing some reading and this past weekend began my journey by builing a 3'x6' cedar box, drawing up a planting plan and purchasing seeds. My soil will be arriving today and I can't wait to get started. I am sure I will have plenty of question as I go, so I am very thankful for this forum.

Welcome to the forum.
I'm sure whatever questions you may have will find answers here. There are some very knowledgable people on board that are always eager to help find answers.
Don't forget to get the camera out and take pics if you can. We all love pics.
I like the size you chose. Three feet across is much easier to handle than four feet. If I had my choice now, I'd build mine 3 feet across instead. The older I get the harder it is to reach too far across the bed.
Enjoy the results.

Thanks for the Welcome
I too am very glad I chose the size I did, especially after I built the box and set it in place!

Welcome to the forum! I put my boxes on my patio (which is concrete blocks), since that is where I get the best sun. I think it's a great place to grow things now, when before, it was a big old cement thing. Good luck

What a great place to set up your SFG! A cinder block pad will be great, you will have a nice level base and still have a walk around area that won't get all muddy.
We do have several members in Canada, both in BC and Ontario.
Please keep us updated on your progress.
Again, Welcome!

OntarioGardener! I love it when we get Canadians on the forum. I'm located in Southern Ontario as well. Just north of Toronto. Where are you?
Come on over to the Canada forum if you have any questions that may be specific to our area. We have a growing population of Canadian SFGers over there.

Thanks for the welcome. Blackrose, I am in Hamilton. I have already posted on the Canadian forum and I am looking forward to keeping in touch. I just finished (well almost) filling my box. The rain eventually chased me inside for the evening. I have my trellis up and to box 3/4 full. Cheers!
