My top 6" is store-bought potting soil. Below that is about 6" of well-composted horse manure. Below that is wood chips, leaves, and other yard debris. Even newspapers, ashes from the wood stove, and composted kitchen waste, shavings from rabbit hutch, chicken coop, etc. I still have a long way to go before I have real "black gold" compost to use.
