Are Soil Tests Important?
My best friend has a garden (not square foot though) and does soil tests all the time and swears by them. Is it really that important to do those?
Re: Are Soil Tests Important?
The beauty of sfg is it's simplicity. Put in five different types of compost, and they all balance themselves out. No need to worry about Ph, or N,K,P No need to worry about silts, clays, and sand. No need to worry about anything. Mel did the research so you could follow in his footsteps: sit down next to your gardens and relax!
Re: Are Soil Tests Important?
No, they're not. That's the short answer.
As boffer has already said, with SFG soil test are irrelevant. If you've made your Mel's Mix properly you HAVE a good, healthy, well-balanced growing medium - something that those growing in dirt/soil almost never have. That's why they need to do soil test and add this and amend with that, etc. etc. Mel has already done all the research and testing so the rest of us can just sit back an enjoy while our neighbors jump through all manner of hoops all summer long to accomplish what we did the day we made our Mel's Mix. Ain't life grand!

Re: Are Soil Tests Important?
Because of a conversation I had with someone trying to grow blueberries, I'm wondering if a girl should know the PH of the water she puts on her garden?
Deborah ....even if she knew the water PH what really could she do about it?
