The Scoop on Poop
Just found this article that might be of interest to some of you.
http://www.garden.org/ediblelandscaping/?page=201104-animal-manures
It tells the difference of different forms of manure and is appropriately titled "The Scoop on Poop".
Enjoy!

Thanks for sharing, Kim. Here was my favorite part, and so appropriate for the SFG and recent topics...lol.
"If you have a small garden, consider using worm castings. These are high in soluble nutrients and can be used directly in the garden. You can buy bags of worm casting, but raising your own worms is fun, although you'll need a lot of worms to produce enough castings to amend a large garden.
A better way to use worm castings is to make a compost tea. The tea water is rich in nutrients and is a great way to give your plants a quick boost as a foliar fertilizer. In fact, you can make tea from any manure. Here's a little more information on making manure or compost teas."

Yeh, I found a worm composter online that I'm going to get. I was was going back & forth on the idea, but I think it will be perfect.

Re: The Scoop on Poop
My niece raises rabbits, another article linked to that one said that rabbit manure can be spread directly on the garden and that it's an excellent fertilizer. Does anyone have any experience with rabbit manure? Someone told my husband that you can add worms directly to the manure under the rabbit cages and get a nice worm casting/rabbit manure concoction. That sounds pretty good. What about maggots, as I've seen them in under the cages, I know they are there to help the process, do I need to worry about them?
My friend also brought me two bags of horse manure last summer but since we didn't have our compost bins set up they sat in the hot sun. I'm sure they cooked up to 140 degrees in our 100+ degree weather. I'm thinking about adding them to the compost heap. Any thoughts?

@ BBG I love how the link you posted said "Compost tea, that is. Being touted as the next big thing in gardening." Mel wrote about it in his frist book, he is so ahead of the curve. I used his method of making it and it worked great. So easy just take a 5 gal bucked put a couple of scoops composted marure in the bottem fill with water and put the lid back on, then wait a couple of days and feed your plants. Mine loved it.
