Hi there everyone-
My name is Jen and I am so excited to have found this gardening method. We are a large homeschooling family (we just welcomed our 7th child into the family, we have 6 boys now and 1 little girl) and last year we started a big garden (50' X 50') with a pregnancy added to the mix last year, it was very fun...and very weedy...LOL!
This year we will be SFG! each of the older kids will be doing a bed (3' X 3') that is the 3 older kids, and the twins will share a bed (they are only 5.)
I just ordered the curr. and let me tell you we are getting ready to GO!! I have told everyone I know about this, it promises to be a fun summer full of learning here in Michigan. well, just wanted to say HI Lots of kids...lots of fun! 61949

Welcome Jen:

It is an exciting time to be gardening with kids. They get to learn where their food comes from without the turnoff of all the weeding and hard work.

As you have found out Square Foot Gardening is the easiest way to garden ever invented and I am sure your kids will enjoy learning how to garden.

God Bless,

Ward.

jen - welcome!

i am a homeschool mom, too. only three kids.

we started sfg last year as a homeschool experiment. we never successfully gardened anything before.

we ended up learning all sorts of 'educational' things as well as saving money on our grocery budget! it was most enlightening! and the best part? once you eat a carrot fresh from the ground, you KNOW what you've been missing! hard to eat a store carrot after that. . .

have fun on your homeschool adventure!

my one piece of advice?! don't cut corners. follow the instructions in the book - 1/3 peat moss, 1/3 vermiculite, and a 1/3 of at least 5 different composts. you'll be the envy of the neighborhood with your produce that you'll have to share!

Hi Jen,

Welcome to the forum. You've certainly got a house full!

Here's a thread that may be of interest. If you have something to share in the post, it will bump it to the top of the active list, and perhaps get some more activity.
