strawberry pyramid update
Last year we added a strawberry pyramid to our SFG, and since it was new we didn't know how the strawberry plants would do in it over winter. We didn't cover it and we live in zone 6, the strawberries seem to be doing fine and putting out new leaves.
I cleared away the old dead leaves today.

Josh:
Thanks for the update. We have our first strawberry bloom of the year open today.
God Bless, Ward and Mary

Re: strawberry pyramid update
Look fantastic, Josh! Great to hear your strawberries are coming back. Mine are too.
I am hoping to build a modified pyramid this year or next year. I think due to space constraints it's going to need to be a triangle--sloping down on one side, as I'm thinking the spot for it will be backing onto a fence. Have you ever seen a design like that?

I always heard that necessity is the mother of invention. Can't wait to see your design, Megan.
Josh, I always love looking at your garden. Thanks for the photo.
My strawberry bed is growing again, too, in front of the house. Hubby is planning today on finishing our new 32' strawberry bed outside the garden fence. I'm a little worried about bermuda grass encroaching there, but maybe we can put enough barriers down to discourage it. (Ha, ha.)

Re: strawberry pyramid update
You did a few video's yesterday. That is so kewl Josh. You should get your best strawberries ever from that pyramid this year. Get ready! (and mulch with a little compost, bagged manure and maybe a little alfalfa meal)
Megan it always seemed like the north side of a strawberry tower didn't do well anyway, yours should be just awesome.

Re: strawberry pyramid update
Thanks all. Seems like my plans morph with every day, even hour...! Yesterday I was thinking about suspending a strawberry tower over half of a small pond.... today I am still considering the same, only the "small pond" is now a 150-gallon stock tank!
Re: strawberry pyramid update
I really LOVE Josh's strawberry pyramid. I've found some instructions for making one, but I'm not exactly handly with the saws and don't have any access to a mitre saw. I read that these wooden pyramids are available in kit form. Has anyone seen one anywhere in a catalog or on the net?

Haven't seen the pyramid one for sale, but i suspect this type might work (no tools required)
Maybe there's an Eagle Scout looking for a project, or perhaps the local high school woodworking department would be able to help you out?
