Compost

So we started composting last season, and overwintered without adding much more, due to freezing weather. Yes, we have those in Atlanta, too, believe it or not. The compost has a few properties of the "good" compost: earthy smell, solid black color, and impossibility to recognize the initial ingredients.
However, it appears to be clumpy. It's definitely not loose. When you first open the bin, you see little marble size clumps, pretty uniform in size and shape. I first thought those are some fruit that didn't decompose. However, when you squeeze them between your fingers, they mash into a perfectly looking compost. In general it looks like it's a bit wetter than it needs to be.
Any ideas on how to make my compost loose and earth like? Do I need to run it through a mesh screen, or just pile it on the squares and start using without reservations?

I know there is no lack of information about composting out there, but I am looking more for personal experiences.

You can run it through a screen of hardware cloth or just mix it in, as is, and the wormies will take care of it.

I agree with campr. If you do screen it I would use 1/4" mesh if you have it. The finer stuff will just clog up. I did this for an 2 hours today, but I needed really fine stuff so I had to ran it through the 1/4" and then the fine mesh.

Unless, like ribarr4, you need something very fine, I would just do like camprn and add it straight to the mix and let Mother [Nature] take care of it.

It may even be that if it dries out it won't clump up. You could take some out and let it dry out and see what happens?
