Amazing how hockey fans know both. I swear I think I know the Canadian anthem better. Sadly, I don't think any other country knows the USA's anthem better than theirs.

Some of the US folk do not know it either, Christina AguileraBackyardBirdGardner wrote:camprn wrote:Fabulous! Ok, everybody sing.... Oh Ca na da, our home and native land.... la la la la... well you know the rest!

I like it better than the US anthem. And I believe it was not originally a drinking song.
Someday I will go on pilgrimage to Toronto.

If you do, let me know! We can get together for lunch or something. I'm only about 20-30 minutes north of downtown Toronto.

One of my grandsons was so surprised once when he was little and I sang what he thought was 'the hockey song'. LOL! Most Canadians don't know much more than the first couple of lines of our anthem either. Part of the reason for that is that they keep changing the words every few years so we don't "offend" anyone. For crying out loud, it is our national anthem!!! LEAVE IT ALONE!! People can just get over themselves for once.
The other reason people don't know their national anthems is because we don't expect people to sing them anymore. We used to always sing it in school every morning when I was a kid but that is not allowed anymore. At special events, singers used to be asked to lead us in singing the national anthem and it was expected that people would stand at attention and sing with them. Now celebrities are hired to sing the national anthem. Rather than singing it in a simple style so the audience can join they use it as an opportunity to show what an amazing range they have or how many notes they can make a single syllable last for. They are so busy showing off their talents that they forget the words and embarrass themselves and their country. It is a shame what we have done with our anthems........in both countries.
Living in the Yukon Territory we had a lot of sporting events and such with the people of Alaska so while I don't know the American national anthem better than my own I do know it almost as well as my own. Hope that makes you feel a bit better, BYBG.
