Compost questions (sorta) Empty Compost questions (sorta)

I emailed a local garden center because I only have a general compost mix, composted manure, and mushroom compost. Last year I made do with these types and did well, but I really would like to use the 5 different kinds like mel says and maybe have a little better harvest. So the response I got was quite interesting. They told me about a product called Bumper Crop - here is what is in it.

It's a blend of sphagnum peat moss, composted fish bones & lobster shells, composted chicken & cow manure, peat humus, blood meal, kelp/seaweed and aged bark fines.

I like the idea of composted fish & lobster and the chicken and cow manure because that will get me the variety, but I don't know about the other stuff. What do you experienced gardeners think? Think I could use it as 2/5 of my compost blend, maybe cut down a bit on the peat moss if this seems rather "peaty"?

Compost questions (sorta) Empty Balanced Compost

That sounds like a PH balanced compost mix to me with an iron boost from the kelp. I think it might be a good additive.

Sounds like that one bag is already a mix of 5 things. Might add to your peat content but like Mel says, "We're not baking a cake." If I had some of that stuff in my area I'd use it.

It looks like a great mix of composts, but this is just my personal opinion based on gray hair! The cheapest material will be the largest part of the mix, the most expensive will be the smallest. Not necessarily a good balance of each.

I'm with you, I'd use it as part of my 5 way compost
