Garlic - too late for garlic? Empty too late for garlic?

Post  janetgouvas 11/22/2010, 9:48 am

You know how you plan to do something and just keep putting it off, or things keep interfering with your plans and you suddenly realize how much time has gone by? Well, I wonder if I have totally missed the time when I can plant garlic in the Phx. area? I'de still like to give it a try if there is a chance for it to grow.

Anyone in our area plant garlic this fall or have any experience with growing it here?

My guess is it would not be too late in PHX...you guys are barely in the 70's eh? I never grew anything when I lived there, but I would guess you could wait as long as you want there...the ground is just never going to freeze ...no time like the present. I might be totally wrong...but if you don't plant them you lose the option to try. Very Happy Happy Gardening & Good Luck!

Garlic - too late for garlic? Empty too late for garlic?

Thanks Jennie, I had about decided to give it a try. I use lots of garlic when I cook and so does my daughter, so having my own supply would be a big savings. I decided to use one of my big pots. One whole head should fill it up nicely without crouding.

I planted about 100 garlic cloves and about 46 potato onions in 2 of my 4X4 beds. I LOVE GARLIC!!! and I CANNOT wait to have MY OWN.

If you go HERE they have a little info about growing garlic in a container. Smile

Happy Garlic growing!
