I found a couple of caterpillars on my fennel, chomping away. If I'm not mistaken, they look like the swallowtails that someone else had posted. I sure hope so. They have been hanging around eating fennel for about three days now. I wonder how long before they go into chrysalis stage?

Here's the second of these guys

Oooh, I'm jealous! I planted fennel just for those little crawlies but they have never shown up! Caterpillars Icon_sad

Kinda pretty, aren't they?

I lied -- they're here! I just got home and went out to check, and there are about a dozen of the little darlings munching away on the fennel. Yee-ha! Happy to contribute to the black swallowtail population!

There's something else out there too, though. Looks a little like a ladybug nymph except it's orange and black instead of red and black. Gotta do a little research on that one.

Look who I found today while pulling all my carrots! Sorry the picture is blurry, he was an energetic little guy.

Those caterpillars are gorgeous! I wish I had some like that in my garden. Right now all I have is cabbage worms. Sad
