i have some out of control cukes
I planted two different types of cukes..the ones I started from seed indoors and transplanted are looking very normal. (not sure what kind those were, I lost the packet).
I also bought a few seedlings of Japanese Cucumbers. Can anyone tell me how long these are supposed to get and when to pick them?? I did some googling but couldn't find a good answer.
Thanks!
(most of them are long and fairly skinny, but this one went NUTS and i couldn't make myself pick it out of curiousity for how big it could get Eventually, I knew it had to go and we picked it last week...I took a picture of it with my 3 year old before we tossed it.)

Re: i have some out of control cukes
I had the same questions. I waited until my "lemon cucumbers" were lemon and the seeds were just too developed. I have 4 varieties of cucumbers and am tending to pick the lemon ones when they just start to turn light green, the more normal varieties I am picking when the end just rounds and the cucumber gets pretty smooth. I have only one "striped serpent" cucumber and it is very slow to grow. It is small and pointy and has been there forever. I have a feeling it is going to have large seeds but I just can't pick it yet. If need be, we just scrape out the big seeds and eat away.
Hope this helps.
