Favorite seed companies

Hello everyone! I'm just wondering where everyone gets their seeds. I've always just bought what was available at my local hardware stores and Walmart, and as you can imagine, that doesn't give me too many options. I tried looking for seed companies online, but I really couldn't find much.

Do you guys have any favorite websites where you get reasonably priced seeds? I would love to know!

I second Baker Creek. Also Pinetree Seeds has delivered good service in the past. Your local old fashioned hardware store or Farmer's co-op should have a good source of seeds - much larger packets too. I got them for $1.89 each. For example, the parsnips were 1 oz (as opposed to grams with other seed packs), looks like about 1/4 cup of seeds.

They have good organic seeds at Lowe's I know.
I also mail order from TerritorialSeeds in Oregon and Johnnyseeds.com in Albion Maine since I live in Maine and they cater to us northerners.
I've had great luck with their germination when i start them myself.
If you want to save seeds, you need to buy organic or open-pollinated seeds for that purpose.
That's my intention this year so I can have my own seeds next spring from fruits I know do well in my area.

I hope someone corrects me if I am wrong, but organic and open pollinated are not the same thing. You can have an organic hybrid. Organic just refers to the way it was grown - without harmful chemicals. Think fish emulsion and neem oil instead of Miracle Grow and Orkin.

People also confuse organic milk with raw milk. Also not the same - organic milk is often - usually even - pastuerized. A little off topic, I realize.

Thanks for setting me straight.
If the seeds are organic and don't have the hybrid numbers, I assume they are open-pollinated or heirlooms as well.
I don't believe any of mine are hybrids.
I'll check things more carefully in future.

Maybe I am being naive, but isn't any new variety either a mutation or a hybrid, whether it is organic and/or heirloom, or neither of those? (Discounting GMO, of course.)
