Tragedy in my SFG

I lost almost everything in 3 out of 5 of my gardens. I had a rogue deer lift my fence (obviously not sturdy enough) and ate my cantalope (but not watermelon), lima beans, pole beans, beets, chard, tomato, cucumber (but not squash), okra, khol rabi, lettuce, wax beans and probably a few other things tht I can't remember. They didn't eat my new mexico chillies or peppers, but stood on a bunch of them and destroyed them. I was gutted. It happened about 10 days ago, so last weekend I installed a new welded wire fence (I had one fence around 3 plots, and individual fences around the other two). My arugula was spared, and Ipicked that this morning. Some of the plants migh.t sprout again, otherwise my beds are ripe for early fall crops, and more beans I was talking shotguns - my husband was kind enough to mention how much tasy the venison would be not they had eaten all my veges - and then on Saturday - there was a mother deer with her brand new baby - so brand new that its legs were still wobbly and unco-ordinated - it was so cute - so I decided that I didn't really need a shotgun, just a welded wire fence. I do like the deer, just not when they start eating my food!!!

Today I am feeling happier. I harvested the last of my bush beans from one of my safe beds, along with almost the last of my snap peas, and the vacant lot next door is donating 2-3 bowls of wild blackberries each week at the moment. I also have a half dozen wax beans and lettuce to eat today - all is not lost.

Oh, I'm so sorry for you. I can sympathize. I know how I felt when I came home from a weekend away and saw that voles had eaten many of my veggies. It's discouraging to say the least.

But we learn and do better next time.

I'm glad you were able to see who did benefit from all your hard work. Fawns are so precious.

I'm so sorry, I know how you feel. I've not had trouble this year since my garden is my front yard, but I've lost so many plants to the deer. They are completely fearless around here.

I'm so sorry for your losses. Deer are so beautiful, yet so destructive to our gardens.
I hung some Irish Spring soap in net bags on some of the fence poles I use for trellising, around my garden to deter the deer. It worked on my dwarf fruit trees last year and this year so far as well.
I'm hoping it will keep them away. I don't have any fencing around my garden.
They also say to put human hair in your garden. Get a bag of it at a hair salon. They probably will enjoy getting rid of it by the bagful.
