Finally Going Public - photos of my garden
This photo was taken yesterday from the roof of the restaurant. (Not by me - you would have a very hard time convincing me to go up on a roof, never mind a 230 year old roof!)
I have grids, that you can't see in this photo, in the boxes furthest away. I did not yet have the grids at the time of this photo. I also had not yet picked up my toys from the yard, so it is still a mess in the photo.
The twine trellis is for cukes and squashy things and baby pumpkins to climb. Once they are providing some shade, I'll put some cool weather things underneath and see if I can keep them happy.
(The baby pumpkins are for the fall when my husband makes pumpkin soup. Last year he bought little pumpkins to carve out and use as the soup bowl. This year I hope to provide the bowls!)

Big zucchini! It was about 16in. long with a 14in. girth! The cat is average/big in size...

Very ingenious solution, Martha. How does that saying go?
"Desperation is the mother of invention."
or is it
"Necessity will put your bartender on top of a 230-year-old roof!"

That is just great!!! Love the creativity. I can see how that would make it easy to access the veggies from any side.

Martha that is so cool! The shape of the beds looks really convenient to work and intriguing. I love the arched trellis idea with the shade-loving plants underneath. I was thinking of growing mini pumpkins on a teepee after I saw it on this BHG plan:
Thanks for sharing and now I know where your restaurant is!

Re: Finally Going Public - photos of my garden
I like the boxes' shape from the artistic point of view, but how practical is it to have them in this shape? I don't see any practicality in it. As for the access to the plants one can just go around, since there is enough space around boxes even if they were just rectangles.. It is a lot of valuable growing space waisted, in my opinion.

Re: Finally Going Public - photos of my garden
the purpose for the shape is based on the shape of my usable space. If I plant tomatoes a foot apart in a straight line for 7 feet, I have 7 tomato plants. This way I have 13 plants in 7 linear feet. I do not suggest this approach for everyone - everyone's available space is different. For me, to work around existing boxes, sun and space, this is a winner.
