Yes, I definitely agree!

For years we did row planting in a small garden in our backyard. It seemed that row gardening wasted alot of seeds and time with little results. Therefore, eventually we stopped row gardening.

Then a few months ago I found Mel. He made alot of sense.
The initial investment a little more costly but seemed it would make better results with no waste.

I made by first 4 x 4 box this spring which has brought much excitement. I look forward to looking at my plants everyday with nothing to do but water if needed!

Many thanks to Mel Bartholomew.

Happy Gardening everyone....

I know what you mean Tim. I can see the difference between my SFQ and my friend's garden. She was very kind to let me put the boxes in her yard. She still has a traditional garden and the difference is incredible. I think she may be thinking SFG for next year.

I got my first garden plants from relatives, and then I had to figure out how to grow a garden. (They have row gardens.) Luckily, just at the right time, I saw the SFG book in the store and thought, "this is exactly what I need to get started! What a great idea!" That was a year ago. Now, I love my SFG and I am making my gardening area a lot bigger because I love it more than I ever thought I would! Thanks, Mel!

After two dismal attempts of row gardening hubby decided that we had too much clay for a vegetable garden. I saw my opprotunity and pounced...I preached the gospel of the raised bed, swore that if we tried square foot we'd actual have a harvest! I was just about to use my feminine charms when he agreed to try it...for one year. (Whew! That was close! My feminine charms are quite rusty. LOL) But if we weren't successful on year one than he would never have to garden again!

This is year two. Three cheers for Mel Bartholomew! Icon_cheers Hubby eagerly greeted spring with freshly cut lumber for brand new boxes. There's not a day that I don't pluck my tiny weeds with my two fingers that I don't silently thank Mel!

This is a perfect example of what happens when engineers have too much free time. Others are mentos and coke driven vehicles and potato guns. This is by far the most useful. Three cheers for Mel Bartholomew! Icon_biggrin

I sure am glad Mel had alot of free time on his hands. The SFG method really does make a beautiful garden. My friend was amazed how much I put in two 4' x 4' boxes. Her garden is atleast 15' x 15' and no where near as much stuff in it as the two little boxes. Are you sure Mel is a retired Engineer and not a retired Genius?

The hours I work I just didn't have time for a traditional garden. I love to garden. It was a sad year last year when I didn't put in a garden. This year I made my first SFG. It was a big project to start with and a bit costly, but well worth it. I now weed in seconds. No Hoes, tillers, tractors. With the wonderful MM I have grown veggies I have never tried before. yes, I know what you mean about a busy schedule and the thought of trying a garden. I don't have my own land so a garden was out of my mind. SFG is my first time with a garden and I don't even want to try the traditional row garden. I always hear from friends how brutal it is in late July, August and September when all the harvesting gets really busy.

I can't imagine how much work it really is, on top of trying to battle little bugs as well as weather. Just the fact that there is no weeding cuts out so much work. Even if a weed comes up it dosn't stand a chance in the SFG. The neat look of the garden makes the little weeds that do pop up stick out like a soar thumb.

Thanks again Mel.
