Pollination
Okay my various squashes and pumpkins are starting to flower, however, they seem to be flowering only all male or all female. Can I hand pollinate using the male from one type to pollinate the other type (ex. pumpkin to pollinate the scallop)?
Re: Pollination
Selandra, I think that will work... just don't plan on saving seeds for next year, unless you want to do a cross-breeding experiment!

Re: Pollination
Yes -- that is what I do. I pick a male blossom and wanter through the beds pollinating any female that are open. I don't save seed from year to year, so it works just fine.

Re: Pollination
Squmpkins sounds good, Hmmm... wonder what a squalon would taste like? How about a scalpkin or an acorpkin
Re: Pollination
That's it!! I'm saving SEEDS, next year I will be providing squmkins
seeds!!
So funny !! lololol
I read what Belfry said about the paint brush, leaned back and took one of our schools (home school) paint brushes and is sitting waiting to see the honey dews Hoping I have both gender blossoms. I am so happy, Ive had questions about why my squash was so hard to grow last year .. welll some of it I know now was pollination. Besides the soil etc Poor things didnt have a chance with me. Cukes mind you I love them they are the encouragement plant, they grew no matter what. I wont be saving my pepper seeds, not this year until I have a larger garden. I have hot and sweet in the same bed.
I will be experimenting with the corn pollination as well. Its like cooking, ooo lets try that and that and that Its fun to experiment.
Happy Gardening
