Very new to the whole gardening process. My wife is a big garderner though and she is willing to teach me. We built two 4x4 boxes last year and have planted lots of stuff already. I have potatoes going crazy, radishes pretty close to harvest size, carrots coming up, a couple tomoato plants... you get the idea. The more I research this, the more escited I get! Already planning expansion for next year... but might do it and just plant a bit late this year!!! We have no kids but would like to learn about "putting up" veggies for use all year round. Eager to share and learn on this forum. Excited about things like seed exchange and seeing what others do with their gardens. SFG seems like its too good to be true!!! Anyway, HELLO!

Hi,

What part of Maine do you live in? I'm about an hour from the Maine-New Brunswick border, on the Canadian side. I'm new, too -- been doing SFG for about a month now.

I'm also in Maine, near Sebago Lake.
I began last spring and learned lots from my mistakes.
This year is wonderful. I am going gung ho and have already harvested lettuce, radishes, Swiss chard, mesclun mix, spinach, and today two handsful of strawberries that I put in last year.
I'm having a blast and keep a new blog of my gardening experiences.
You might find some tips there to help you. Its listed at the bottom of this post.

To see my last year's blog, try my old blog site:
http://quiltladysgardens.blogspot.com
Those are pictures of my very first efforts, from setting out my raised beds to harvest. They might help you.

If you start late, there are all the warm-weather crops yet to go in like cukes, eggplant, melons, tomatoes and the fall crops can go in mid-summer, like cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and others. There's always things you can grow in the garden.
Good luck.
