Today I took my infrared temperature gun out to the greenhouse to test the temperature of the new Vivosun thermostatically controlled heat mats under the seed starting trays. I have the heat mats sitting on panel boards to insulate them from the metal shelves, and I have the thermostats set to 85ºF.  I tested numerous places on each mat, and found the temps ranged from 83ºF to 85ºF, which was surprisingly close to the set temp.

Excellent.  I use a skinny meat thermometer and the temps are very close to what the thermostat is set for.

What was the temp in the greenhouse at the time? I'm assuming that the mats can only raise the temperatures by about 20F? At least that's what happens with my (also Visosun) non-thermostatic mat.

It was around 55ºF at the time I was testing the mats to see if the seeds were getting enough heat.
