I am a Compost Failure
I give up.
Flat out cannot find 5 different compost.
I have Black Kow composted manure
I have Mushroom Compost
I have BACTO compost
I have blended compost
I am in the Chicago area, You would think I would have no trouble. Ha!!
All of the big box stores have their stuff out already and they only carry manure based compost and mushroom compost.
I have tried many of the little hardware stores like Ace Hardware and large garden centers. nothing but manure based and mushroom
I have found many wonderful sounding ones online, but it cost more to ship than the cost of the compost.
I will continue to try for a few more weeks at the smaller stores but if I have to bite the bullet, I will get from Amazon. Can someone recommend one from their choices
Or should I just work with four? I was so hoping to follow MM recipe to the "T"
Thanks,
Dani from Burr Ridge

Re: I am a Compost Failure
If you can't find five different composts, use four. If you can't find four different composts, use three. Sometimes we have to do with what we have available to us.
Check with the Chicago Community Gardens Association to see if they have recommendations on local compost. Also check with your County Extension Office for any advice they might have.

What OG wrote. Do the best you can. Try to limit manure-based to 20% and worm casting to 5%.
Re: I am a Compost Failure
Thanks
I have found a couple on Amazon that I am going to purchase
They are pricey but Are not mushroom or manure
But most everything has peat in it.. I'm trying I'm really trying
I guess I will just not put in as much peat moss

Re: I am a Compost Failure
That should be good to go. On their website they don't list the ingredients, but they state, "Crafted from nutritious food and yard residuals, over months of care and composting, it becomes this easy-to-handle mix—our best compost yet!" The company is not very far from you, about an hour's drive. You may want to call them about their ingredients, and about bulk compost that you could pick up.

Re: I am a Compost Failure
This may be a good compost according to the green and food waste, as long as they didn't go and add any peat moss or other fillers. I see they list their phone number.
