UK Vegetable Shortages
Saw an article this morning about grocery stores in the UK limiting the quantity of each type of vegetable customers may purchase due to nation-wide shortages. Apparently this shortage has been caused by, “Difficult weather conditions in the south of Europe and northern Africa have disrupted harvest for some fruit and vegetables, including tomatoes and peppers".
A sign of the times? It is easy to see why home gardening is gaining in popularity.

Re: UK Vegetable Shortages
The UK has a higher population density than the U.S. by several factors. They import around 40% of their food on about 70% usable land. Shorter growing season, latitude 50* and above.
In the U.S. 2% or less of the population feeds 100% of the population. (reference: My Job Depends on Ag)
Summary of my thoughts. We in the U.S. are really lucky that we don't have to depend on good weather, smooth shipping operations, political turmoil, etc. in other lands to eat.
