Hello From Waxahachie TX
I’m new to gardening but am very excited. We moved to Waxahachie to an acre lot last June and I’ve been getting the back yard ready for a bunch of fruit, veggies and flowers.
It’s a new build so starting from scratch. We now have some of the hardscaping and little tiny trees put in. I’ve been planting various seeds and most have actually germinated. I set up one of the spare bedrooms as a combination grow room/bedroom.
I’m starting to harden off the plants this week and today would be day 5. The winds are 20 MPH and not sure my babies are ready to handle that.

Bonnie, Welcome to the Forum from California.
The garden area is lovely. I wanted to mention something upfront about the deep (and good looking) beds. You only need 6-7" of Mel's Mix for doing Square Foot Gardening. The official recommendation for bottom fill of deep beds is clean sand or well draining dirt. The reason is that anything organic for the bottom fill will decompose over time and the whole bed will shrink down. That would mean adding more, and more, and more $$ Mel's Mix to keep the height up, plus the annual or seasonal amending with more blended composts.
Opps, I just noticed in one of the photos that you have already filled the beds.

Welcome from another Texas Gardner
I live in Mertzon which is about 30 miles west of San Angelo. You will have much
less problem with rain than I do. We just don't get much. I have just moved from
my place in the country with a large garden and a large well to the small town of
Mertzon. I am going to have a container garden. I have put in a rain collection
system to water the garden. Maybe we can both learn about container and raised bed
gardening. Looking forward to the education.

Re: Hello From Waxahachie TX
Thank you,
I filled the bottom half with sand and I’m in the process of filling the remaining with nice fluffy Mel’s mix.
I’m looking forward to putting my plants into the beds next week.

Are you thoroughly wetting the MM layers as you are filling the boxes? Fluffy suggests it is pretty dry.
