Re: Hello From Wilmington NC zone 8a
Welcome to the SFG forum, John!
Have you checked out the All New Square Foot Gardening (3rd ed.) book? It outlines the simple techniques used in square foot gardening. I see it's still a bit chilly in Wilmington, but this might be a good time to knock together some boards and order vermiculite, find compost and all that other good stuff for when it warms up a bit. Though of course, you could start some types of seedlings now, too.
I'm sure someone else will be along with more interesting things to say. In the meantime, happy gardening!

Be sure you check out the regional forums for a lot of good information. I think you would be in Lower South region, but possibly other ones

Hello and welcome! Yes, Mel Bartholomew's SFG book is a great place to start, and our Search function here in the upper left corner will get you some serious hands on information too!
We all started somewhere! Good advice on finding some vermiculite, it can be a search sometimes.

Thanks everyone! Yes my book gets delivered today or tomorrow. Weather this weekend is sketchy so I'll have plenty of time to plan and read. Java John, Welcome to the Forum from California!
Yes, do start the search for ingredients now. The coarse Vermiculite should be purchased now. I tried to order coarse via Amazon but it didn't make it to my front door so they eventually gave me a refund. I called the supplier direct and got it for the same price, safely delivered in a sturdy cardboard box!!

COARSE VERMICULITE I found a source for 4 cu.ft. coarse vermiculite where it is currently in stock! And, where they would ship just a single bag! I had an abject failure going through Amazon, for the same product, so I decided to try going directly to the seller. Apparently, the package/bag tore by the time it reached my home town distribution center, but I couldn't just drive over to the center or talk to a live person at the center, or even on the phone. I've never had a problem with Amazon before. My total cost is $56.23 for it to be shipped from Farm Tek to my front door in California, the same as it was on Amazon. Sweet.
You can call Ari Leizman direct at 1-800.327.6835 x1729, or order online at https://www.farmtek.com/farm/supplies/ProductDisplay?mfPartNumber=115993
A.M. Leonard has been out of stock for some time, but they are anticipating to have ti back in stock by mid-January. Meanwhile, they are taking backorders for it, and will ship it as soon as it is back in stock.
